Missing in action! Must catch up!
Monday - Mine and Jamie’s day off! Always a great day, considering that it follow Sunday, the most hectic and tiring work day. But yes, seeing as it was also payday, I picked up Jamie and went to the mall where we picked up our measly but hard-earned paychecks and quickly cashed them - that money was going to fund our fun for the day!
My driver’s side tire was pretty much shredded due to the poor alignment on my bitchin’ BMW, so I decided to invest in a new tire. It set me back 80 bucks but I didn’t want to drive to LA with the notion that my tire could pop on the freeway and send me careening into a wall at 80 MPH, as spectacular as that might have looked.
While waiting for my tire to be changed, Jamie and I walked down Sunnymead Boulevard and hit up all the cheap little stores - Cartoon Field, 98 cents+, Goodwill, the pho place, Office Depot, Superior, etc. You know, just killing time but amusing ourselves with little knick knacks and what not. It was actually very enjoyable walking around like that.
Once the tire had been switched we were finally off on our journey to Downtown LA. The ride was quick and enjoyable albeit a bit hot for myself. The only thing that made me a little nervous was the constant racket coming from my busted strut on the right side of my car, it sounded as if it was going to fall off or something. But we made it, safe and sound, to Chinatown, our first destination of the day.
We strolled through the dirty streets and winded through the little flea markets where old Chinese merchants implored our business in their barely understandable version of English. You know, I hardly ever buy anything in Chinatown but if I had tons of extra cash I would come back with a carload of useless but entertaining shit - swords, air soft guns, pipes, salvia, firecrackers, miscellaneous weapons - all kinds of stuff. But yes, we concluded our walk through Chinatown with only a couple of items in hand - a vintage-looking can of gumdrops and garlic roasted peas, both of which Jamie bought, haha.
The next spot on the list was Little Tokyo, a small Japanese center only 5-10 minutes away from Chinatown. I think me and Jamie have exhausted the amusement in Little Tokyo with our somewhat frequent visits but at the least, it was a nice 30-40 minute walk and window shopping experience, as always. What made this visit a lot more fun and special than our previous ones was something we never tried - walking around beyond Little Tokyo.
What we found was a lot more exciting and enchanting(yes, enchanting). We came across old-buildings and statues, brilliant architecture, hobos and businessmen, and all kinds of big-city type things. It sounds kind of ridiculous to think of these things as something new considering the short distance from Moreno Valley to LA. But it was a little awe inspiring standing between all the buildings with all their pretty details and reflective windows. Yes, it is apparent I’ve not been through such a city before. Jamie and I couldn’t fight the urge to become tourists and so proceeded to take countless pictures of everything and anything we saw that caught our fancy. We walked for a couple hours just taking in all the cool shit before deciding to head back to the car(which was very far by this time).
On accident, we walked into the Toy district, which is pretty much a big outdoor swap meet for electronics and well, toys, of course. There was so many bootleg electronics here, so tight! And a Canon AE-1 for just $150. So good.
But things started to get scary. It was 7, and business starts to shutdown around sunset. We found ourselves finding our way through some really awful looking streets, with big, ruffled, metal pull-down shutters where all the stores used to be. Graffiti on every wall, trash in every nook and cranny, and a bum here and there residing in the midst of it all. It was really nerve-wracking to walk through it all, being the only 2 normal people(I know, bums might be normal too, but you know what I mean) walking the sidewalk. We passed a couple of bums arguing and felt even more nervous. haha.
Eventually we found ourselves in Little Tokyo again, where the car was safely parked at a meter on the sidewalk next to the plaza. After the several miles of walking we decided to get a little more than a bit to eat. We decided on the regular place - Orochon Ramen. It had grown a bit nippy outside and the ramen at Orochon was piping hot and spicy, perfect for the weather.
After eating we headed to the car and began the end of our perfect and eventful day. Perfect!
Tuesday - As usual, I picked up Jamie and we went to Starbucks to get the regular - A Venti Iced Green Tea with Classic sweetener, easy ice. Then we went to my mom’s apartment to go swimming! It felt so good that I’m going provide you all with a detailed account of the initial near-orgasmic sensations - in another post with an appropriate title. I went to work at 4 in the afternoon, not much to say about that.
Wednesday - Wednesday was almost exactly like Tuesday with the exception of the Earth’s orbital orientation in relation to the Sun, and the Moon’s orbit in relation to the Earth; Wednesday had shifted the Earth 1/356th further in it’s orbit. But it was still a good day! Even though Jamie through a hissy-fit it was quickly forgotten, haha. And again, work from 4 to 9 PM.
Well, the fervor I had at the dawn of this post has faded and I must bid you adieu until the next. GOOOOODNIIIGGHHHTTTT!
