List

I want to:

  • Play a show solo, just me and a guitar
  • Travel, with no map and no destination in mind, in a car, for a week or two
  • Sleep in until I don’t want to be in bed anymore
  • Have a lively chat with all the friends I haven’t seen in ages, preferably one on one
  • Congregate(party) with every person I’ve considered close to me
  • Add hats to my wardrobe
  • Have less reasons to smoke
  • Have more positive reasons to drink
  • Play a show with Robotkill or play music with people
  • Walk the city from dawn until dusk

Well that seems to be all on the old noodle for now.  I don’t believe many of those will come to fruition but hey, fuck it.

It’s Friday, Bitches

Yes, bitches, today is Friday, the second and last day off of the week for me. So I woke up early and cleaned like crazy. It was fine though because even though I got all smelly and sweaty I turned up the music and got in a hardcore cleaning mood. As a reward for myself, I made some Belgian waffles that totally kicked ass in my mouth. I scarfed down 3 and hopped in the shower, The routine is as follows: Wash body, shampoo hair, condition, facial wash, rinse/chill for 3 minutes, then towel dry. I then shaved my week-grown whiskers, which I hate(I want a thick professor-ly beard).

So once I got clean it was time to take off to the bank to withdraw the remains of my measly account balance. On the way to the bank my mother called with an urgent request(but then again, she always speaks as if something is urgent) - the storage unit has not been paid for and they are going to put our stuff up for auction next week. WOW. So it actually was pretty urgent. After getting my money I drove to the storage place where they said they don’t take partial payments. Great. Oh well, if those items in storage aren’t being used then they must not be that important anyway.

The next item on the list: Pay my laptop bill. So with money in hand I drove to Moreno Valley and paid my bill of $143.00. Done.

Then I looked at the time: 12:16, noon. WTF. It was still early, and I had nothing to do until 4 PM, when Jamie gets out of work. So now I’m here, at the mall, leeching off someone’s internet connection. Thanks “Burton”, You’ve provided me with a somewhat entertaining use of my time.

As a sidenote: Wachovia(my other bank account) keeps calling me! Fuck overdraft fees man, I’m not paying 34.00 for my goddamn small cup of Pike Place roast. $186.00 in overdraft fees is a little ridiculous, especially when you consider the way they process transactions(largest to smallest). I would have owned up to maybe half of it, but not this much. Fuck banks, man.

Happy Friday!

The Past Few Days

Missing in action! Must catch up!

Monday - Mine and Jamie’s day off! Always a great day, considering that it follow Sunday, the most hectic and tiring work day. But yes, seeing as it was also payday, I picked up Jamie and went to the mall where we picked up our measly but hard-earned paychecks and quickly cashed them - that money was going to fund our fun for the day!

My driver’s side tire was pretty much shredded due to the poor alignment on my bitchin’ BMW, so I decided to invest in a new tire. It set me back 80 bucks but I didn’t want to drive to LA with the notion that my tire could pop on the freeway and send me careening into a wall at 80 MPH, as spectacular as that might have looked.

While waiting for my tire to be changed, Jamie and I walked down Sunnymead Boulevard and hit up all the cheap little stores - Cartoon Field, 98 cents+, Goodwill, the pho place, Office Depot, Superior, etc. You know, just killing time but amusing ourselves with little knick knacks and what not. It was actually very enjoyable walking around like that.

Once the tire had been switched we were finally off on our journey to Downtown LA. The ride was quick and enjoyable albeit a bit hot for myself. The only thing that made me a little nervous was the constant racket coming from my busted strut on the right side of my car, it sounded as if it was going to fall off or something. But we made it, safe and sound, to Chinatown, our first destination of the day.

We strolled through the dirty streets and winded through the little flea markets where old Chinese merchants implored our business in their barely understandable version of English. You know, I hardly ever buy anything in Chinatown but if I had tons of extra cash I would come back with a carload of useless but entertaining shit - swords, air soft guns, pipes, salvia, firecrackers, miscellaneous weapons - all kinds of stuff. But yes, we concluded our walk through Chinatown with only a couple of items in hand - a vintage-looking can of gumdrops and garlic roasted peas, both of which Jamie bought, haha.

The next spot on the list was Little Tokyo, a small Japanese center only 5-10 minutes away from Chinatown. I think me and Jamie have exhausted the amusement in Little Tokyo with our somewhat frequent visits but at the least, it was a nice 30-40 minute walk and window shopping experience, as always. What made this visit a lot more fun and special than our previous ones was something we never tried - walking around beyond Little Tokyo.

What we found was a lot more exciting and enchanting(yes, enchanting). We came across old-buildings and statues, brilliant architecture, hobos and businessmen, and all kinds of big-city type things. It sounds kind of ridiculous to think of these things as something new considering the short distance from Moreno Valley to LA. But it was a little awe inspiring standing between all the buildings with all their pretty details and reflective windows. Yes, it is apparent I’ve not been through such a city before. Jamie and I couldn’t fight the urge to become tourists and so proceeded to take countless pictures of everything and anything we saw that caught our fancy. We walked for a couple hours just taking in all the cool shit before deciding to head back to the car(which was very far by this time).

On accident, we walked into the Toy district, which is pretty much a big outdoor swap meet for electronics and well, toys, of course. There was so many bootleg electronics here, so tight! And a Canon AE-1 for just $150. So good.

But things started to get scary. It was 7, and business starts to shutdown around sunset. We found ourselves finding our way through some really awful looking streets, with big, ruffled, metal pull-down shutters where all the stores used to be. Graffiti on every wall, trash in every nook and cranny, and a bum here and there residing in the midst of it all. It was really nerve-wracking to walk through it all, being the only 2 normal people(I know, bums might be normal too, but you know what I mean) walking the sidewalk. We passed a couple of bums arguing and felt even more nervous. haha.

Eventually we found ourselves in Little Tokyo again, where the car was safely parked at a meter on the sidewalk next to the plaza. After the several miles of walking we decided to get a little more than a bit to eat. We decided on the regular place - Orochon Ramen. It had grown a bit nippy outside and the ramen at Orochon was piping hot and spicy, perfect for the weather.

After eating we headed to the car and began the end of our perfect and eventful day. Perfect!

Tuesday - As usual, I picked up Jamie and we went to Starbucks to get the regular - A Venti Iced Green Tea with Classic sweetener, easy ice. Then we went to my mom’s apartment to go swimming! It felt so good that I’m going provide you all with a detailed account of the initial near-orgasmic sensations - in another post with an appropriate title. I went to work at 4 in the afternoon, not much to say about that.

Wednesday - Wednesday was almost exactly like Tuesday with the exception of the Earth’s orbital orientation in relation to the Sun, and the Moon’s orbit in relation to the Earth; Wednesday had shifted the Earth 1/356th further in it’s orbit. But it was still a good day! Even though Jamie through a hissy-fit it was quickly forgotten, haha. And again, work from 4 to 9 PM.

Well, the fervor I had at the dawn of this post has faded and I must bid you adieu until the next. GOOOOODNIIIGGHHHTTTT!

Between 4 and 9 p.m.

“Surfer Burger Meal!” The order sounded loudly in the small fast-food kitchen. Jerry at the register, me at the Grill. I quickly reached down to the meat drawer to grab a thick patty of thawed ground beef. The meat was cold to my touch - it had once been some part of a living animal. I removed the wax paper from the patty and threw the patty down onto the grill, creating a sharp resounding smack that pierced my ears. The patty at once began to sizzle, releasing a slightly salty and pleasant aroma. The adrenaline began to coarse through my body as I began to acknowledge the gravity of the situation - if the savage beast that purchased my simple, yet delicious burger, found a fault of the slightest nature in it’s taste or presentation, it could possibly mean the termination of my prestigious position at The Burger and Grill. With this is mind, I tensely grabbed the oily tongs with my right hand and flipped the beefy disk over revealing the cooked side of the patty, the once pink flesh now a tasty-looking brown, the edges slightly darker. Looking behind me to make sure no one is looking, I add a dab of the brown, recycled oil into the center of the patty so that it may cook faster. At once, the slight sizzling increases into a more intense crackle as the oil and meat touch.

I am growing increasingly weary of the heat from the grill as it rises into my face. I take a sip of ice cold water that I have put to the side in case just such a situation should occur. The burger patty is now almost cooked, it has browned on both sides and the air above the grill is filled with an aroma that is nothing short of divine…

My day, between 4 and 9 p.m. contained many such experiences of a similar nature. I need a new job. I would miss the burgers, though.
